| Rachel Jelen Rachel Jelen loved horses like many young girls and began riding by the age of 6. Rachel cleaned stalls, groomed horses, tacked up horses, fed and did other things to enable her to ride. Lucky for her, she got to ride every day, and by the time she was 11 she was riding up to 6 horses a day. Rachel rode & showed Saddleseat & Western up to the age of 15. At the age of 15, she purchased her first horse “Cody Aboo” who was then a 3 year old, green broke, AQHA (he is now 26 and is one of Rachels lesson horses). Cody helped Rachel expand her riding into the world of Hunt Seat, Dressage and Jumping. Rachel showed Cody in Hunt, Western, 1st Level Dressage, Versatility and Trail. Now at the age of 36, Rachel is teaching and training all breeds and disciplines at Chuck Burneson's farm in Olmsted Township. Her primary teacher for the last 4 years has been Chuck Burneson for her horsemanship and riding. For Dressage, she works with Gretchen Singleton in Newbury, Ohio. Rachel is currently working on 3rd & 4th level movements. Working with Chuck and Gretchen has expanded Rachel’s knowledge of horses and her understanding of true “Centered Riding”. Throughout this time, she has developed a teaching and training style that is a blend of Classical Horsemanship, body position and reading the horse. Rachel established the Art of Equitation at Burnesons in 2006. Rachel and the Art of Equitation focus on the use of a balanced and correct position to allow you to be a positive influence on your horse. She believes that proper equitation is an art that has been lost throughout time and is a necessity to become a true partner with your horse. The more correctly balanced and quiet one becomes as a rider, the more harmony is developed and a true partnership is established. The end result is a light, responsive horse that travels with confidence in their rider. |
| Chuck Burneson Chuck Burneson's love of horses began at the age of 5 on his parents' farm in North Olmsted, Ohio. He owned a pony name “Trot Trot” that regularly ran away with him. When he wasn’t riding at their home, he was down the street at Adele von Ohl Parker’s ranch. Mrs. Parker was a daredevil of sorts but also a true horsewoman. Chuck spent at least 10 years there learning horsemanship from Mrs. Parker and other local horsemen including Walter Paige. Anyone that knew Walter, knew how skilled he was in his abilities as a blacksmith, a horseman, a rider...Chucks’s friendship with Walter grew and he taught Chuck all he could about how they trained horses out West, at the Spanish Riding School, and in the Cavalry. Throughout the past 50+ years, Chuck has been involved in all phases of horses. This includes riding hunter/jumpers, stock horses, reining horses, racehorses, trick riding and trick roping. Anyone that has had the opportunity to see Chuck ride sees a very quiet , soft rider that “reads the horse” and thinks before he reacts. Chuck has also been involved in Trick Riding and Trick Roping. It is with these skills and his skills as a horseman that enabled him to be involved in numerous Rodeos in Ohio and surrounding states. He has also performed by request at the Carousel Dinner Theatre & Berea Summer Theatres productions of “The Will Rogers Follies”, Trick Roping on horseback in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Parade, and Trick Riding at the Cleveland Sportsman Show, and numerous other events. |
